One of my favorite mentors was Jim Rohn. It is difficult to describe his ability to deliver inspirational advice in such a simplistic manner. The most memorable message I recall was his soft, but firm and raspy voice saying, “Don’t ask that life be easier, but that I be better.”

Who considered that option instead of just praying that God would grant us an easier path to all the comfort and rewards we want? It is definitely a reminder that it is up to US to change the things in our lives to make the difference we want. What have I done to deserve success, praise or a flourishing bank balance if I am not an active participant in their delivery? Such awakening can shake us to the core, but it is definitely time for taking 100% RESPONSIBILITY for the outcomes in our lives.

Most of us are guilty of placing blame on others or situations in our life which failed to meet our expectations. The question is, what did we do toward achieving the result we wanted?
• Did we volunteer to lead a project to demonstrate our leadership skills?
• Did we diligently strive to get the grades that could earn a scholarship?
• Did we step up and apply for the job opening that would advance our career?

What does that mean? For me it was acknowledging events in my life where I “blamed” others for results I didn’t like. That also opened my awareness to other areas where I held resentment or blame against someone instead of taking responsibility for myself and my outcomes.

I suspect there are many who, like me, have used the excuse of blaming someone or something for the unsatisfactory outcomes they are living with. Think about that, visit your past and consider the changes you could have made which would have resulted in a better outcome.  It’s never too late…
